LIMASSOL

Cyprus' second largest town, Limassol is a lively and busy seaside resort. With festivals and attractions such as the Autumn Wine Festival and the Spring Carnival, no time of the year is really a bad time to go. Various different types of accommodation stretch along the coastline. The town centre itself is a hive of activity, with lots of shops, restaurants and bars and a particularly vibrant nightlife. For those in search of something quieter, try the Old Town and the harbour area, where the atmosphere is more tranquil. Limassol is where the King of England King Richard the Lionheart married Princess Berengaria in 1191, and in keeping with this heavy duty heritage there are plenty of site of historical interest to keep the culture buffs amused. Situated just behind Limassol Castle, and definitely worth a visit is the recently opened 'Time Elevator', a simulator-based experience which provides an insight into Cyprus' history. Limassol's central position on the Cyprus coastline also makes it an excellent base for exploring the mountains or other coastal resorts.
